“But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” ~ James 1:22
Happy New Year! It’s always exciting to start off a new year. The coming new year seems so full of promise. We may have plans of the many things that we want to accomplish. However, many times those things never get done. When we finish the year and look back we see many goals that were left unfulfilled. A few weeks ago I came across some of the goals I had for 2008 and noticed that many of them were never accomplished. Does the Bible have a solution for this? Does it give us any advice on how to get our God-given goals accomplished?
As we’re instructed in James 1:22, we must be doers and not hearers only. It’s not enough for us to just hear the Word, we must be doers of the Word we’ve heard. We must put into action what we’ve heard. We’re not to just be reference libraries, but living epistles. It’s easy to be full of the Word and to be able to reference the scriptures we’ve stored up. However, that’s not enough. We must be doers of the Word that’s stored up inside us. When we’re not doers of the Word we deceive ourselves. We think we’re okay because we know the Word, but if we are not doers of it the blessing is never released upon us.
This year don’t just be a goal-setter, start working out those goals. Put action to your plans. Do something everyday that will get you closer to accomplishing the goals God has put in your heart!
